Led by now 31-year-old Timberlake—the man who often boasts about scoring an ace—the group succeeded in spades. Mirimichi the ‘green’ golf course was born. Spending millions on a massive eco- overhaul adding wetlands and native plants, minimising water and pesticide use and reducing energy consumption and waste associated with golf courses, as far as its green credentials stacked up Mirimichi proved a raging success. That achievement was acknowledged in 2010 when the course received a Golf Environment Organisation (GEO) certification. It was the first awarded to a US course and it remains one of only 10 GEO certified layouts in the world. In addition to the environmental and operational changes, Mirimichi underwent significant course upgrades in an effort to elevate its status to a championship course. From the tips the course now plays more than 7400 yards (6766m) with challenges such as deep pit bunkers, elevated greens, swathes of native grassland, waterfalls and meandering creeks around every fairway bend. Several tee boxes are provided on each hole to accommodate all levels and the greens are large and undulating. Mirimichi truly is a golfing haven and proof we can have magnificent courses that are challenging, stunning, and eco- friendly. We give it one out of one (pop) stars.
